Needles & Hooks in Lake Forest Park has a new location. You can still expect to find all of the beautiful yarns and a warm welcome whenever you visit. If you haven’t been yet, we highly recommend it. In this month’s Yarn Store Focus, we catch up with Ginny the owner to find out more about this great local yarn store.

Please introduce yourself and let us know who we can expect to meet when we visit your store.

I’m Ginny, the owner and I can’t live without Amy & Angela. We all like to knit and crochet and are happy to help.

Where can we find you and how long have you been there? Our new location is inside the Lake Forest Park Town Center on the lower level . We are below Third Place Books and between the library and Planet Fitness. We have been open for almost three years and in our current location since June.

What will we find when we visit your store?

We have a variety of yarns in every weight as well as a robust non-animal fiber area. Typically, you’ll find locally dyed spinning & felting fibers as well as some indie dyed yarns. We are a friendly bunch and love both knitters and crocheters.

What are your favorite yarns/fibers?

What yarn isn’t my favorite?! Currently, it’s a tie between Vivacious 4ply (a high-twist 100% merino in gorgeous hand-dyed colors) & Cumulus (pillowy soft suri/silk) by Fyberspates. And what a lovely company to work with as well.

What’s on your needles right now?

I like to switch between crochet and knitting, so I’m currently crocheting the Beverley Tee by Peppergoose in a navy blue alpaca blend with the prettiest sheen. I plan to cast on Stephen West’s new Fir Rib Skinny Scarf…Nalu Mitts, a Falling Water Scarf and a crochet dinosaur.

What notions can’t you live without?

Cute point protectors are my current weakness, but we love Knitting Barber cords, travel scissors, and so many bags to carry it all in!

What’s your advice for a new yarn enthusiast?

Visit stores and find local meetups. The fiber community is very welcoming. Ask questions, because if we don’t know, we might be able to direct you to where you can grow your new craft. Most importantly, it should be fun! We love newbies!!

What’s coming up in the future at your store?

We are loading up the fall schedule with classes as we speak. Knitted Animal Friends and colorwork in October along with Needle Felted Otters!

What are your recommendations for additional places to visit in your area?

Third Place Books is a must, grab a cookie at Honey Bear, and a drink at Vulpine. The Chocolate Man will get you fixed up with some famous treats. Our little town center is a great destination.
