It’s always fun to catch up with Lisa from Heart 2 Heart Knitting and Fiber, a fabulous local yarn store in beautiful Poulsbo. In this month’s Yarn Store focus Lisa shares all that’s coming up in her store over the coming months as well as some great ideas of places to visit when you are in the area. Why not make a day of it?

Please introduce yourself and let us know who we can expect to meet when we visit your store: My name is Lisa Michael, owner of Heart2Heart Knitting & Fiber Arts. When you pop in to visit, you may also have the opportunity to meet Cindy, our Shop Manager and Mary our sales associate.

Where can we find you and how long have you been there? You can find Heart2Heart Knitting in the quaint, nordic town of Poulsbo Washington. We are located just off the main drag of Highway 305. To find our driveway, you need to take a left onto 10th Ave. NE, just near Town & Country Market; follow 10th Ave. NE until you see Key Bank; turn into the driveway at Key Bank and follow the driveway down the hill and to the right. We are nestled in between the cabinet and shoe store! We have been at this location for 7 years.

What will we find when we visit your store? At Heart2Heart Knitting & Fiber Arts you will find a little bit of everything. We have your basic work horse yarns such as Berroco Vintage to your high end Lang Cashmere LIght and a lot in between. Heart2Heart prides itself on having beautiful high end yarns at a very affordable price.

What are your favorite yarns and fibers? All 3 of us have our favorites, but I can honestly say we all LOVE to work with a beautiful blend of merino and silk in fingering weight. Whether we are making socks, garments, or accessories the merino/silk blend just flows through our fingers and we enjoy every single stitch.

What’s on your needles right now? I have many WIPS to keep me knitting entertained! Currently I have Jane Cardigan by Jessica McDonald on my needles; the Gingerbread Sweater by Veera Välimäki as well as a pair of socks. I always have socks on the needles; mostly because at Heart2Heart we offer a monthly subscription for socks. I like to knit each month with my customers. Heart & Sole Socks subscription. Each month is only $46.00 and you reiceve a monthly box including a 100 gram skein of yarn/hand made stitch markers to match the sock pattern and some goodies. This year we are collaborating with Nancy Wheeler, Knit, Sip, Happy podcaster & sock designer from New Brunswick Canada. Each month she offers up one of her patterns either for free or at a deep discount. These patterns are easy but yet intriguing. They are not your normal vanilla knit! Each one has stitches and patterns to keep you interested and want to finish. At the end of the year, the subscriber will have 12 beautiful pairs of handmade socks!

Do you have notions that you can’t live without? Notions I cannot live without would be my favorite stitch markers, Cocoknits Colorful Stitch Markers. They are very colorful and easy to see and especially easy to slide along my work. I also love Chiaogoo Red Lace Knitting needles. To me, these are a must have.

What’s coming up in the future at your store? Local Yarn Shop Day (LYS) is the last Saturday in April. We will be having a trunk show with Juni & Si, from the Snoqualmie area. Soon after the LYS (Local Yarn Shop) Tour ascends! May 13-17th 25 shops, Heart2Heart inlcuded, are joined together in a “tour” that customers and visit. For 5 days enjoy the fun of driving around with your besties, visit the local yarn shops, sign up for prizes and get free patterns and beautiful yarns!

Finally, can you give The Woolpack your recommendations for additional places to visit in your area? Definitely make a stop downtown on Front street to Sluys Bakery. The donuts and baked goods are amazing. As you leave the Poulsbo area I would sugget going over the Hood Canal Bridge and up to Port Townsend to the Bazaar Girls Yarn Shop.
