For the first of our June “Yarn Store Focus”, features we head to Burien to meet Arlinda at B Town Yarn. This wonderfully friendly LYS has so much to offer fiber enthusiasts and has been providing yarny happiness to the local community and beyond since 2021. Read on to find out why you should take a trip to B Town!

Where Do We Find You?

We are located in Olde Burien just off Ambaum Way at 902 SW 152^nd St.

How long have you been there?

B Town Yarn moved to this location at the beginning of 2021.

What will we find when we your store?

We carry a wide variety of yarn in an assortment of fibers and price points. We have commercial lines but also love a good indie-dyed yarn. We do our best to celebrate our local indie community as well as those from further afield. We offer an assortment of quality knitting needles, crochet hooks, notions, project bags, and books. We also pride ourselves on our friendly and helpful service and are always happy to welcome you, answer questions, and make recommendations.

What are your favorite yarns/fibers?

I am really enjoying non-superwash yarns right now. They’ve come a long way from rustic to more refined/next to skin wearable. My current favorite yarn is our latest line, Kaos Yarn, from Denmark. The colors are amazing, the fiber is ethically sourced, and it’s some of the softest non-superwash yarn I’ve ever come across. I also love an alpaca blend for the cozy factor!

What’s on your needles right now?

So many things! But my primary project is a Sugarbush Sweater for my Mom using Juni and Si sock yarn. Fingers crossed I get it finished before the end of summer!

What notions can’t you live without?

Stitch markers! A good locking marker always comes in handy and there are so many cute designs out there!

What’s your advice for a new yarn enthusiast?

Jump in! There’s so much to learn and discover that you just have to start. And check gauge if you’re making a sweater or garment. It’s absolutely worth the time.

What is coming up in the future at your store?

We are so excited to host Crow and Crescent on June 22 for a trunk show! She’s a new-er indie dyer located right here in King County and her colors are just gorgeous. The Berocco Tee Party is also starting soon so I’ve got to decide what I’ll be making this year. They have so many great options. I’ll also be moseying through Fiber Fusion, one of my favorite fiber fairs.

Any recommendations for additional places to visit in your area?

Burien has an excellent downtown area and it’s very easy to spend a day here. On our block alone, we have an independent book store, a home goods store, a consignment shop, a gift shop, a cookie store, a wine shop, a gelato shop, some of the best pizza you’ve ever had, and three other dining options sure to suit any mood. Cross Ambaum and you’ll run into even more dining and retail options.
