Yarn Day Trip – Poulsbo

Our first stop when we reached Poulsbo was Heart2Heart Knitting & Fiber Arts. Lisa and Mary welcomed our huge group and gave us information about the two upcoming yarn crawls they’re involved in; the PNW Yarn Crawl (30 April – 3 May) and the Puget Sound LYS Tour (13 May- 17 May). This shop was perfect to wander around in, even with 14 of us all at once. The yarn is tucked into every corner with great efficiency, leaving you to find treasures wherever you turn. I was particularly entranced by a yarn made of viscose from corn fibers! I’ve never seen that fiber makeup before, and I had to buy it and give it a try. It’s so soft and has a lovely sheen, much like bamboo yarns. It’s going to make the perfect summer top!
Lisa, the shop owner, has curated such a lovely space to display all the necessary materials for crafting. I love the layout of the shop, with yarns arranged by weight on the walls, but center floor displays for specialty items. She also has some comfy chairs tucked cleverly into a corner, so you can sit and craft for a bit before diving back into shopping.
We piled back into the van to drive downtown for lunch. Keeley had recommended a place for fish & chips, and it lived up to her hype! Their tacos and salads were also great. The waitstaff was amazing, handling 14 of us with ease.
After lunch we had a bit of time to walk around the waterfront. Poulsbo’s marina is right behind the main street with all the shops, so you can shop or enjoy the view of the water with equal ease.
Our second yarn stop of the day was Amanda’s Art Yarn. Amanda herself rolled out the metaphorical red carpet for us. She has a great selection of yarn and fibers, with tools for weaving and spinning as well as knit and crochet. She also has a lovely class table space, which provided a resting place for some of our group to chill after our amazing lunch.
Amanda has an amazing variety of yarns. I personally found a cotton/silk blend yarn, and there were additional creative blends everywhere you looked. One yarn I was amazed to see was Kenzie, a now-discontinued yarn from HiKoo that has wool, alpaca, angora, and silk. I made a sweater for my husband years ago and it still looks incredible. I couldn’t believe the selection the Amanda still has! If you’re on the hunt for this yarn, look no further. She’s got you covered.
We took a group selfie in front of Amanda’s shop before climbing back in the van to start our journey home. We drove down Bainbridge Island to the ferry terminal, where we were lucky to get on the very next sailing! Taking the ferry is always such a fun adventure, and this trip was especially lovely with the clear skies and the view of Mt. Rainier in the distance.
We made our way through downtown Seattle on the other side to finally wind up back at the Mercer Island Park and Ride. This trip was the perfect day out, a respite from the dreary winter weather and a great time with fiber friends.
