If you are reading this post, it is likely that you are a fiber enthusiast, but if you are also a baseball fan, you really should read on. The annual Stitch and Pitch event takes place at T Mobile Park on Sunday August 25th, where the two worlds of fiber art and the ball game will collide to create an afternoon of stitchy fun!

The first Mariners Stitch and Pitch event took place in 2005 at what was then Safeco Field. Since then, this annual event has gone from strength to strength and is a super popular date on the PNW fiber calendar. This year The Mariners will face the San Francisco Giants and the first pitch will be at 1.10pm.

It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow fiber lovers, sit back, enjoy the game and make some progress on your latest WIP. If that wasn’t exciting enough, there will also be lots of yarn shopping opportunities! Yes, every year at Stitch and Pitch you can meet and shop from local yarn vendors at the marketplace on the 300 level. Amongst this year’s vendors, you will find Row House Yarns, Stranded by the Sea, Seattle Sky Dye Works, Hazel Knits and Seattle Knitters Guild. It sounds as though it’s shaping up to be a perfect Sunday afternoon.

Things to know if you’re planning on visiting:

  • A pre-booked ticket is recommended. Many local yarn vendors are selling tickets and there are still a few available. Buying from a yarn seller, should mean you are seated amongst fellow knitters/crocheters.
  •  If you don’t have one already, it’s worth investing in a clear plastic tote or backpack (see photo above). No-one wants to have to leave their precious yarn project at the gate. T Mobile Park currently allows clear plastic or vinyl totes, no bigger than 12x6x12 inches. Small purses no bigger than 4.5 x 6 inches are allowed (but you can’t fit much yarn in one of those…!)
  • Plan your travel. Parking can be tricky near the stadium area, so either pre-book a space, or consider public transport.

There is sure to be a great atmosphere at this special event and I am looking forward to my very first Stitch & Pitch. See you at the ball game!
