Our featured indie dyer for June is the talented Jess from Jadawoo Designs. People in the Tacoma area are lucky enough to have her store full of beautiful hand dyes on their doorstep, but you can also find her yarns at other Puget Sound Stores and meet her in person at local fiber events throughout the year. Huge thanks to Jess for taking some time out from dyeing yarns for Fiber Fusion to answer a few questions for The Woolpack!
How long have you been dyeing yarn and can you tell us about your journey?
I have been dyeing yarn for about 4 years. I started dyeing yarn after not being able to find a colorway that I had in mind.
What kind of fibers do you enjoy dyeing and where can we find them?
I love dyeing on all fibers, but something magical happens when I dye on a base that has silk in it. I love the luster that it creates. You can find my yarns at several local yarn shops, on my website, and at my shop.
What is it that you love about your craft?
Dyeing yarn let’s me tap into a different part of my creative side. I love being able to create something fun and seeing what others create from it.
Which shows will you be attending this year?
I will be at: Fiber Fusion, PNW Fiber Expo, Sacred Sheep, and SoCal Fiber Fair
What advice would you have for someone thinking about dyeing their own yarn?
I encourage them to stop thinking about it and give it a try! Find a class or reach out to a local Dyer to learn more about the process. There will never be too many colorways for makers to choose from.
Where can we find your trunk shows in the near future?
I will be doing a harbor cruise with Apple Yarns July 13, I will be at Heart 2 Heart on August 17 & 18 for their 5 year anniversary, I will also be in Idaho in August. You can find more events and dates in my website.
