Meet The Indie Dyer: Jean DiFilippo of Juni and Si.

This month’s featured indie dyer is Jean from Juni and Si. Many of you will have fallen in love with Jean’s yarns at the recent Flock Fiber Festival. Who wouldn’t be amazed by the beautiful depth of color of her hand dyes? Good news, if you weren’t able to make it to Flock, there are plenty of opportunities to pick up these stunning skeins at local yarn stores and upcoming trunk shows!
How long have you been dyeing yarn and can you tell us about your journey?
I Started dying yarn at the beginning of 2021 just to see if I could do it. More out of curiosity than with any intent to start a business. After dyeing a few skeins, watching a lot of videos and positive feedback from knitty friends, I decided to put a few up for sale just to see if anyone else would like them. Happily, they did!
What kind of fibers do you enjoy dyeing and where can we find them?
I dye super wash wool because I love the color vibrancy that I can achieve with it.

What is it that you love about your craft?
So many things! I love putting on my headphones, zoning out and playing with color all day. I love seeing my ideas put to yarn. I love meeting people at shows and getting to talk about yarn all day. I love looking at peoples finished projects and thinking that I helped make that happen. That someone liked what I do enough to put hours of their time into creating with it! How perfect is that?
What advice would you have for someone thinking about dyeing their own yarn?
Just do it. Watch some videos, get a few simple tools, and have fun.
Where can we find your trunk shows in the near future?
August 30-31st I’ll be at Jadawoo in Tacoma, and then I’ll be at The Knitters Studio in Bellevue from October 25th to 26th.
